BVA HELPING FAMILIES OF DEPLOYED SERVICE MEMBERS

On Sunday, November 15 from 1-5 PM, American Legion Post 233 will host the Beaches Veterans Association monthly BBQ, with all proceeds going to fund the Mayport USO twice monthly dinners for families of our lower ranking deployed service members.  These dinners are held immediately prior to military pay days, are in many cases, “life savers’ according to some stressed mothers who have found their cupboards bare ….

The BVA is comprised of American Legion Posts 233, 316, 129; VFW Post 3270 and FRA 290, who have banned together to support USO programs that support our troops and their families.  Another program that is extremely important to our front line fighting troops is an ongoing “Drinks for the Troops’ in which donations and in kind ‘Flavored drink packets’, are collected and given to the USO for purchasing, packaging, and mailing to our own deployed Blount Island Marines and Florida National Guard Units getting ready for Afghanistan deployment.  Their water is hot and tasteless, making these drinks packets highly desirable, while on patrol.

The Sunday afternoon menu will be a ‘Stadium’ cookout consisting of “world” famous Palm Valley Burgers, with all the trimmings, baked beans, Cole slaw, chili, and liquid refreshments of your choosing, available while watching the Jag’s on their Large Screen TV.  Donations of $6.00 are appreciated, as well as, any contributions to the USO ‘Drinks for the Troops’ program.

Post 233 is located South on A!A, right on Old Palm Valley Road (CR210) at Walgreens, right on Canal Blvd to Wilderness Trail N.  Post 233 on the right side!  If lost in the wilderness call 285-2484 for assistance…..
