General Membership Minutes, March 7, 2013

§  Ceremonial opening and prayer by Cmdr. Havekost.

§  Commander Havekost called the meeting to order at 7:17pm.

§  Roll call of eighteen members present.

§  Minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted.

§  Applications/transfers George Lindsey transfer Post 297 and Robert Spano transfer Post 400, all paperwork in order, motion to accept applicants, seconded and passed. Dale Maples transfer Post 215, motion to accept pending verification of DD214, seconded and passed.

§  Commanders report attached.

§  1st Vice Mark Dorsey reported membership is close to 110% with 410 members.

§  Finance report attached.

§  3rd Vice Stu Lilly’s commented on the rise in attendance at the meeting. He asked that more members volunteer when they can in the kitchen.

§  Service Officer Maury Lazenby reported that he has been working with Barbara Green and Ann Cook in helping them to obtain memorial plaques for their deceased husbands. Maury also reported that three candidates have been chosen to attend Boys State this year. Two are from Ponte Vedra HS and the other is from Nease HS.

§  Auxiliary President Kathy Church gave her report, which is attached.

§  Riders Treasurer Kathy Church gave Director Jarrod Buchman’s report, which is attached.

§  Kathy Church, newly appointed MIAP State Coordinator for Florida, gave an explanation of what the MIAP organization is doing in the identification of unclaimed cremains and the final disposition of same.

§  House Cmte. report. The committee is exploring ways to change up the entertainment at the Post. This is a work in progress by the committee at this time.

§  Newsletter report, Commander thanked those who submitted notes/comments for the newsletter.

§  Website report, Cmdr. Havekost, report attached.

§  Commander Havekost presented Dan Wortmann with a Continuous Membership Certificate for 28 years, and a Certificate of Appreciation for the work that Dan does around the Post.

§  The public portion of the meeting concluded at 7:49pm.

§  The Past Commanders Club will be having their next dinner on April 24th. The menu is not yet set, check the website for updates. The club will be doing a dinner every quarter.

Unfinished Business

§  The propane tanks have been relocated and are now in a much safer  location now.

§  Bar stools, Dieter Arnold made a very generous donation of new stools, with more on the way. At Tuesday’s E-Board meeting a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to him for the donation.

§  Legion fundraiser will be on March 30th, the theme being the 94th Birthday of the American Legion. Sonny Kirkwood is heading up the event, which will be an oyster roast, with shrimp, burgers and hot dogs, etc. Volunteers contact Sonny.

§  Fred Harlee, reported that he contacted the office of Congressman Ron DeSantis and requested his attendance at the upcoming benefit for Larry Stewart.

New Business

§  Captain Ski requested a $100 donation for Annie Bass for help with medication needed after her transplant surgery. Recommended by the E-Board from pull-tab account. Motioned, seconded and passed.

§  E-Board recommends a $200 donation from the pull tab account to the Sharks Baseball Team at Ponte Vedra HS. Motioned, seconded and passed.

§  Wilbur Burnett requested a donation for a hole sponsor for the Shriners Hospital for Children. Motion, seconded to donate $100.

§  At the Tuesday E-Board meeting a Planning Committee was formed consisting of Maury Lazenby, Dan Wortmann, Sonny Kirkwood and Mark Dorsey. They will hold their first meeting this coming Saturday.
The committee will formulate a priority repair list for the Post along with a proposed budget for the same. More information to follow at the next meeting.

§  Also at the E-Board meeting a Nominating Committee of Sonny Kirkwood and Stu Lilly was formed for the upcoming 2013-14 elections. Persons interested in running for office are to contact the Nominating Committee to have your name placed on the ballot.

§  Pool Table issue. Receipts are only about $9.00 per month. Discussion followed regarding the disposition of same. Mark Dorsey / Charlie Walker to look into the possibility of having the coin mechanism repaired and report back at next meeting. No vote taken at this time.

§  Dan Wortmann reported on the Wounded Warrior organization that only 44% of donated funds goes toward the warriors. Discussion followed. Points taken about any future donations via our Post.

§  Comments and suggestions concerning membership stimulation, a dedicated building fund, fundraising, and community contributions, etc. Points were well taken.
